Abstract

Amungme tribe residing in Mimika regency, Papua Province is one of the leading tribes which has an essential role in empowering and developing Papua’s economy, especially to the tourism sector. However, this tribe has experienced various obstacles that need to be solved. Evaluating this phenomenon, the writer had conducted qualitative-based method research to find strategies to develop Amungme tribe to have competitive advantages and to increase community’s prosperity especially for the Amungme tribe and community of Mimika regency, Papua Province in general. In this research, surveys and in-depth interviews with related stakeholders had been conducted in Timika city, Papua. The writer has designed comprehensive strategies, namely Amungme-Based Sustainable Tourism (ABST) that focuses on the empowerment and development of four pillars, namely 4Rs: Revitalization, Reconstruction, Remuneration, and Reconciliation. Through practical and efficient applications of these 4Rs, it is expected that there will be a significant change for Amungme tribe and the community of Mimika Regency, Papua Province.
