Abstract

Bunaken National Park is one of the leading tourism objects in North Sulawesi, especially in Manado. Every year the number of visitors coming for diving, snorkeling, and swimming is increasing. This brings not only positive impacts but also negative impacts. The problem formulation of this research is to know what marine animals attract tourists at the eastern part of Bunaken Island and what causes marine animals in the spot of eastern Bunaken which were previously often seen now becomes rarely seen. The research objectives were to find out what kind of marine animals that attract tourists to come, the causes of the disappearing marine animals, and things that can be done to make these marine animals reproduce and once again become a leading tourist attraction. This research used a qualitative descriptive research method. Data was collected through interviews, documentation, and book guidelines to collect the data. There are a lot of exciting animals that live in the eastern Bunaken; Napoleon, Titan Trigger, and the most interesting are turtles. All marine animals in eastern Bunaken do not settle in the same spot. They move to the other places because of the two factors, the natural factors (depth, food source, temperature) and also the external factors (illegal fishing, garbage, irresponsible tourist).
