Abstract

Indonesia, which has a lot of natural wealth and cultural wealth, Indonesia consists of many islands, and its population consists of various kinds of races, ethnicities, different religions. One of them is a Tionghoa ethnic group that has long existed in Indonesia and is divided into ethnic Tionghoa ethnic Peranakan And Tionghoa ethnic Totok. One of the cultures of the Chinese ethnic group is celebrating the peak of the Chinese New Year called the Cap Go Meh festival. The research objective was to determine the potential and development of Cap Go Meh cultural heritage in the advancement of tourism in Manado city. This study used a descriptive qualitative method, with purposive sampling data collection techniques carried out by observation, interviews, and documentation. Based on the data analysis, it was concluded that Cap Go Meh in the city of Manado had been celebrated since the Dutch colonial era when the Ban Hin Kiong temple was founded and was now included in the Manado tourism government calendar of event, and it was still celebrated every year and promoted to preserve Tionghoa culture and for Manado city to become highest tolerance city, also the government sees the potential of this event to bring tourists.
