Abstract

Background: Gout arthritis or uric acid is a metabolic disease that occurs due to high levels of uric acid in the body which can cause inflammation. One of the fruits that can be used in the treatment of lowering uric acid levels is soursop fruit. The content of vitamin C in soursop fruit functions as an antioxidant and has the ability to inhibit the production of the enzyme xanthine oxidase. This enzyme is an enzyme that plays a role in the formation of uricacid.
The research objective: To determine the effect of ginger water and saltwater compress on the reduction of the intensity of pain in patients with Gout Arthritis in the working area of North Halmahera Public HealthCenter.
Research Methods: This research was quantitative research with a quasi- experimental study design with one group pre-post test with group control. The population of people with gout arthritis in the working area of the North Halmahera Public Health Center was 158 people. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling with a total sample of 30 people consisting of 15 people in the ginger water-soaked compress and 15 people with the saltwater soaked compress. The analysis method used a non-parametric statistical test which is the Wilcoxon test.
Results: The results indicated that the ginger water-soaked compress group obtained a p-value of 0.001 <0.05. And the results of the Wilcoxon test analysis in the salt water-soaked compress group obtained a p-value of 0.001 <0.05.
Conclusion: There was an effect of applying ginger water and saltwater compress to reduce pain intensity in Gout Arthritis sufferers in the work area of the North Halmahera Public Health Center.
